Brixham Sailing Trawler, Vigilance
The 78' sailing trawler Vigilance was recovered at the No.1 Covered Slipway in 2023 in a distorted and fragile condition. The 90 ton vessel was originally launched in 1926 from JW and A Upham's shipyard in Brixham.
Her keel up restoration renewed all structural members in Oak whilst also recovering her original shape and notably her elliptical or fantail counter stern. Adjacent to the shipwright work, a blacksmithing team forged bolts, breasthooks and fittings in the traditional manner.
She re-launched in March 2025 and returned to Brixham in time for the Vigilance of Brixham Preservation Trust to renew her interior and re-rig her prior to her centenary year.
